Monarque

Monarque was conceived as a migration of styles. Its roots are firmly in Québec, but its inspiration looks South, toward the Sour Mash traditions associated with states such as Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi. Here, that idea is not used to create a hard or overtly forceful whisky. Instead, it shapes something more refined: a floral and honeyed nose, a fruit led palate, and a softer, more elegant way of carrying the richness of corn.

The name Monarque came naturally. The butterfly travels from North to South, eventually reaching Mexico, which quietly echoes the tequila yeast that plays a dominant role in the corn whisky component. Together, these elements give Monarque its identity: a one of a kind release that does not try to imitate an existing tradition, but rather reinterprets it through a more delicate, more luminous lens.

At CIRKA, all spirits are treated carefully, but whisky receives a little more attention at every step. Visitors often ask how such rich and complex flavours are possible when many CIRKA whiskies are four years old by the calendar. The answer is that whisky making here is considered an accumulation of subtle decisions: which grains to select, which yeast to pair with each grain, how to manage mash and fermentation, what cuts to keep, which casks to choose.

Monarque is made in a way that stays true to the distillery’s broader identity: spirits rooted here, but open to the world. Even when it looks toward a Southern whisky tradition, Monarque does so from Québec, with a style that favours aromatic precision, balance and texture over force.

This edition carries a very clear intention. To preserve the generous, comforting texture of corn while bringing in a more floral nose, a more fruit driven palate and a brighter, more graceful finish. Nothing feels pushed. The whisky is simply given enough space to unfold, one layer at a time.
